Old Furniture & Your New House in Tulsa

Moving to New Home

Moving into a new residence is a costly, yet exciting experience. After paying out money for down payments, closing costs, rental deposits, utility transfers, and a moving company to move your belongings from origin to destination, there could be little money left for buying new furniture. If you discover yourself in a dilemma where the pieces you loved in your former residence do not mesh so great in your new place in Tulsa, roll up your sleeves and read up on some DIY tricks to give your furniture a facelift!

Refinishing Wood Pieces

It could be that all an old piece of wood furniture needs is a new coat of paint or stain to make it appear new and fresh again. Changing the finish of a piece of wood furniture is not difficult to do during a free weekend day and will really transform it into an item that will blend into the style of your new house in Tulsa. For a modern and contemporary look, think about a bright or white finish. If you are going from a modern home to something that is more traditional, ponder warm and dark colors. You can also distress the paint job and accent it with hints of color to achieve a shabby chic look.

TLC for Upholstered Furniture

Do you have a sofa that feels like you are lounging on feathers when you put up your feet to read, but the fabric is very worn? If this rings a bell, you may be able to fix up this precious piece of furniture. Give it a good wipe down with upholstery cleaner and a soft bristled brush or find a cleaning company to come over and do the hard work for you. If there are rips or tears in the fabric, you might be able to flip the cushions over, mend the rips with upholstery needle and thread, or recover it with new material from your local fabric store. Reupholstering furniture can be complicated to do the right way, but there are numerous videos on YouTube that can help you with the steps. Teaching yourself how to overhaul your own furniture can save you a decent amount of cash.

Experiment with Placement

There is no hard and fast regulation that a certain item of furniture is must be in a specific room, unless it is a bed or kitchen table. If you find that a certain end table, cabinet, or bookshelf is not working in a room in your new home, move it into another room where it feels right. When you move into a new house, you will most likely discover that the dimensions are not the same, and that furniture organization that previously worked will not work quite the same in your new space. Arrange the furniture you own and see if you can come up with a new alignment that you love.

The Finishing Touches

Home decorating is an art and you can have a lot of fun giving your new space the atmosphere you love with a little creativity. Highlight architectural details, color palettes, window views, and other features by adding accents to each area the right way. Look for art, blinds, vases, rugs, pillows, and knick-knacks that bring the room together and make your existing furniture fit in. If your decorating budget is tight, think about sewing your own drapes and finding decorations at your local thrift store that can be upcycled with paint and adornments.

Moving into a new home in Tulsa doesn’t mean that you have to part ways with your cherished furnishings and decorations. You can utilize your DIY skills to give your pieces a makeover and save a lot of money in the process. Be creative with the furniture placement and use fabrics, paint colors, and accessories that accent your true style and showcase the beauty of your new home in Tulsa.

Best. Move. Ever!
Very pleased with the overall respect and care the men gave to my possessions. Even mailing me very quickly the only thing lost in transit. Would recommend to anyone needing a long distant move.
